OMPRAKASH VALMIKI
Omprakash Valmiki was born on 30 June 1950 in a Valmiki Dalit family in Muzaffar nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Omprakash Valmiki described atrocities and insults on Dalits . Omprakash Valmiki made his significant contribution in getting the rights of Dalits and promoting the Dalit movement. He explained how Dalits can get their respect in the society.
JOOTHAN
Joothan is the autobiography of omprakash valmiki. Under which he describes the true incident of omprakash valmiki's
life. The atrocities and social mental torture inflicted on him.
Through this story om prakash valmiki has told about the
atrocities and discrimination with dalits and how the dalits lived their
lives. Omprakash valmiki's father wanted him to study in
a government school, but at that time, dalits were not free to enroll
in the school, but gandhi ji allowed the bahujan society to study in a government school.after much request, valmiki gets
admission in the school but he is exploited and mentally tortured and
humiliated by everyone in the school.
In school, they are made to sit on the floor, instead of education,they
are given the task of cleaning. Schools do not have the freedom to
touch anything,even that water cannot drink on its own. Valmiki
becomes very mentally disturbed. Once valmiki is mounted on a tree by a headmaster
named kali ram and he is told to break the twigs from the tree to make a
broom and with that broom, the whole school is cleaned by him. Kali
ram gets omprakash valmiki cleaning the school every day.
Valmiki hides in a corner one day but finds kali ram and then gets
him cleaned.
Valmiki gets very mentally disturbed and feels insulted
by all this. One day valmiki is clearing the school ground, only then his
father is passing by and seeing him in this condition he goes to the head
master of the school let’s talk but the headmaster does not
listen to them, after that he goes to the head of the village
(pradhan) and explains his problem, the head of the village does
not notice his problem and give him an assurance.
